Tips for New Years Resolutions
It is January again, full of new beginnings and a desire to start fresh. It is no wonder then that many of us have a tendency to start the new year with a long list of “Resolutions”, only to abandon them a short while after. That’s because the mere act of creating a list does not really have the deep motivation required to learn new habits (and let go of old ones) or carry on some life changing tasks. So, instead of making a list, I recommend that you answer the following questions:
- What is working in your life? What are some ways to ensure that you keep those?
- What is not working in your life? What are three specific actions you can do to eliminate what is not working?
- What would you like the theme of 2013 to be? If you can come up with one word, great. If not, think of a phrase that will serve as a road map for you as you make decisions throughout the year.
Here is a quote by Maria Edgeworth that reminds the value of staying in the moment as we work on the above actions: “If we take care of the moments, the years will take care of themselves”. Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013.

Think about resolutions as goal-setting, and make sure you are setting SMART goals. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely are much more likely to be achieved.

There’s no secret to magical instant organizing but you can overcome that feeling of being overwhelmed or of not having enough time. One technique is to break down a big goal into mini-projects that can be started and finished within a time frame you have available. Finishing a small project and enjoying the results is a great way to motivate yourself to keep progressing toward your goal.
