Great topic!

I've recently (and temporarily) moved in with my brother and his 5 year old daughter. Also in the house is my 71 year old father.

A year ago we were all living many states apart. But when my mother died we decided to come together and regroup as family.

The house we're all in is very small and my brother has sacrificed to accommodate us. My father is a hoarder. I am an organizer. I am learning first hand how important it is to communicate in a variety of ways to all members of the household so that everyone knows and understands the goals we are all trying to achieve.

I liked the tip from Dawn Link about backing up local digital or scanned documents stored on computers to the cloud (OfficeDrop, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs). Paper, while it may always be with us, is becoming less important for archival purposes and search where digital versions are much superior.

I like the tip from Kristin about clipping receipts to a clipboard. I always toss them on my desk and they get buried.

ahhhhh, yes, Hildy Neumann includes tips for the short shelf life paperwork. That's what gets me! I end up with PILES of papers, none worth much after a few months, and I miss events because the tickets or the directions are lost in the shuffle of piles.

But action tips? I'm going next to check out the links for the document sorter at Staples and the back up sites at Mozy and Carbonite.

I love the tip about working with children earlier in the day before they may become tired and more easily frustrated. Need for sleep/rest can really impede the purging process with children and adults alike.
